The Project

Our Approach
Our crew completed a full tear-off of the old shingles in a single day, exposing the deck for a clean start. Any damaged decking was addressed before the new system went down. We installed a high-performance synthetic underlayment across the full deck, followed by Owens Corning Duration shingles in Sand Dune, a warm, dimensional architectural shingle that carries a 130-mph wind-resistance rating and meets Florida Building Code requirements for West Central Florida.
Owens Corning Duration shingles are built with SureNail Technology, which reinforces nailing through a woven fabric strip that significantly improves wind uplift performance. For a coastal Pinellas County home, that extra holding power matters. We also installed aluminum drip edge on all eaves and rakes and set new pipe boots and ventilation properly flashed to manufacturer spec.
A Pinellas County building permit was pulled before work began. A Notice of Commencement was recorded with the county to protect the homeowner's property lien rights throughout the project. After installation, an independent wind mitigation inspector from IV Inspections completed the OIR-B1-1802 wind mitigation form, documenting the new roof system for submission to the homeowner's insurance carrier. A passing wind mitigation report typically qualifies the homeowner for a meaningful premium reduction.
The Outcome
The Palm Harbor home now has a fully permitted, FBC-compliant architectural shingle roof covering approximately 27 squares of surface area.
